Turriff Primary School Opens for the New School Year
28 Aug 2017
The new Turriff Primary School opened to pupils in August for the start of the new term. The school replaces the existing Markethill Primary School located close by. With a current school role of 505 primary school pupils, the school has been designed with core facilities to allow the role to extend to 600 in the future.
The concept of the school focuses on the creation of a large central space which is the creative and social heart of the new school. This dynamic space is 11m at its highest point and is flooded with natural light. It is a multi-purpose space incorporating dining, creative activities, a library and community space. A circular music room provides a focal point within the space and features folding doors to allow connections with other activities.
The classroom wings and nursery feature a simple palette of bright coloured furniture against a neutral background of simple tones. The exposed glulam construction gives warmth to the spaces as does the exposed cross laminated timber used for the construction of the sports hall.
